A striking late 20th-century Soviet-era cast metal bas-relief wall plaque featuring rich historic Slavic iconography. The center depicts a mounted knight (bogatyr) riding past the medieval stone fortress and onion-domed churches of Pskov, one of Russia’s oldest historic cities, emblazoned in Cyrillic lettering below the horse. The top right corner features a framed Orthodox icon of the Mother of God (Theotokos), traditionally regarded as the city's celestial protector.
Cast in a lightweight metal alloy with a dark oxidized finish in the recesses to accentuate the relief details, this versatile accent piece includes both a built-in hanging ring on the reverse for wall mounting and small integrated feet along the base for display on a shelf or tabletop stand. A captivating piece for collectors of Soviet folk art, brutalist metalwork, or historic European decor.
