A sculptural pendant lamp, model a2827 “diabolo”, produced by the swedish manufacturer asea belysning during the 1950s. Attributed to the danish architect and designer svend aage holm sørensen, whose lighting designs are celebrated for their organic forms and refined use of contrasting materials. The lamp is crafted from black lacquered steel with elegant solid brass details, creating a striking interplay between the warm metal and the matte black finish. Its distinctive hourglass, or “diabolo”, silhouette is both sculptural and functional, making it an iconic example of scandinavian mid-century lighting design. Equipped with two lamp holders - one positioned in the lower shade and one in the upper section - the fixture provides both direct downward illumination and a soft upward glow. It is suspended from a black electric cord, fitted with a white cable shortener and a white ceiling canopy. The lamp is marked with the manufacturer’s original asea belysning paper label, further confirming its authenticity. A highly decorative and well-balanced design that functions equally well as ambient lighting and as a sculptural focal point in both modern and period interiors. The swedish electrical company asea was established as early as 1883, specializing in the production of electrical lights and generators. By the late 1940s, asea had acquired several rival companies, solidifying its position as one of sweden's premier manufacturers of light fixtures. Asea's stockholm drawing office was responsible for the development of numerous modernistic lamps, designed for both public spaces and domestic applications. The company collaborated with several renowned designers, including hans bergström and uno kristiansson, over the years. This piece has an attribution mark,
