The tall central section is formed as a deeply threaded wooden press screw, recalling the substantial screws once used in traditional wine, grape or cider presses. Its strong spiral rhythm gives the pedestal an architectural and almost sculptural presence.

The lower section is particularly decorative. Four arched supports are carved with bunches of grapes, vine leaves and scrolling foliage, while a carved band around the circular top repeats the same viticultural theme. The combination of the massive screw form and the detailed carving suggests that the pedestal was made for a wine-related interior, country house, château or regional commercial setting.

Several feet bear an impressed workshop or retailer's mark. The worn stamp appears to include the words "Walt…" and "Anne…", possibly referring to Annemasse in Haute-Savoie, eastern France. As the lettering is only partially legible, no firm attribution to a specific maker is made.

The pedestal is constructed from solid wood and has developed a warm, dark brown patina. The surface shows the irregularities expected from an old, hand-worked object, including historic cracks, old woodworm holes, scratches, wear and small losses. These traces are consistent with its age and contribute to its strong, authentic character.
