Construction: Hand-knotted, fine kork wool pile on a cotton foundation.
This elegant antique Persian Dabir Kashan carpet is an excellent example of the refined workshop production associated with the celebrated Dabir atelier of Kashan. Woven during the early 20th century, it displays the exceptional drawing, balanced proportions, and fine knot density that distinguish the finest Kashan carpets of this period. Dabir workshop rugs are recognized for their superior craftsmanship, refined floral ornamentation, and the use of exceptionally soft, high-grade wool.
The carpet features a luminous ivory field filled with an intricate garden of scrolling arabesques, flowering vines, palmettes, rosettes, and delicate blossoms arranged in remarkable symmetry. At its center rests an elegant quatrefoil medallion in rich burgundy and sapphire blue, surrounded by gracefully drawn floral motifs that flow effortlessly across the field. The spandrels are beautifully executed in warm madder red and soft sky blue, creating a pleasing transition to the richly decorated border.
Its deep wine-red primary border, filled with alternating floral palmettes and scrolling vinery, provides a striking frame while complementing the vibrant palette of ivory, ruby red, sapphire blue, turquoise, soft pink, and lavender. The colors remain remarkably fresh and harmonious, enhancing both its decorative appeal and collector value.
The weave is notably fine, with crisp articulation throughout the design and a luxurious wool pile that reflects the meticulous standards for which the Dabir workshop became renowned. The carpet retains excellent clarity of design and presents beautifully despite its century of age.
