José Zanine Caldas (1919–2001) was a self-taught Brazilian architect and designer, celebrated for his sculptural furniture carved from native Brazilian woods. Caldas began his career building architectural scale models for modernist architects including Oscar Niemeyer and Lucio Costa, before turning to furniture design. His work was the subject of a retrospective exhibition, "Zanine – The Architect and the Forest," at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in 1989.
