The form takes its cue from the Chinese temple jar — a compressed globular body swelling dramatically above a short flared neck — set on a turned, ebonized wood base. The lamp is fitted with its original brass double-socket cluster, both sockets stamped Frederick Cooper, and a brass wishbone harp.

At 32 inches to the top of the harp, this is a large-scale lamp built for presence — suited to a foyer console, a mantel, or flanking a substantial sofa or bed. The proportions and glaze place it firmly in the sang de boeuf tradition, a Chinese ceramic technique long favored by American decorator-lamp houses of Frederick Cooper's caliber for its depth of color and painterly variation.
