This iconic sculptural form features Cressey's signature bulbous silhouette, hand-incised with dramatic radial sunburst motifs that radiate across the ceramic surface. The heavily textured stoneware is finished in a beautiful speckled white glaze that highlights the sculptural carving and craftsmanship. Original lamp shade is included.

David Cressey's lamps are among the most sought-after examples of American studio ceramics and Mid-Century Modern lighting. The sculptural form is equally compelling whether illuminated or displayed as a ceramic art object. Its substantial scale and timeless design make it an ideal statement piece for Mid-Century Modern, California Modern, Japandi, Wabi-Sabi, or contemporary interiors.

This lamp comes from an important private collection acquired from a Beverly Hills Spanish Villa reimagined by AD100 designer S. Johanknecht. The collection included multiple original David Cressey lamps, all acquired together, including this classic Bubble lamp, and other sculptural Cressey lamps (pictures above). The presence of three distinct original David Cressey forms within the same collection reinforces the provenance and reflects a thoughtfully curated group of important California studio ceramics.

This lamp is unmarked and does not bear a visible maker’s signature, stamp, or label. Many documented examples of David Cressey’s ceramic lamps are unsigned or unmarked. This piece is attributed to David Cressey based on its distinctive “Bubble Body” form, carved sunburst motif, textured stoneware construction, glaze treatment, and comparison with documented examples of his work.
