An exceptional antique Tibetan gilt bronze figure depicting Green Tara (Syamatara), the beloved female Bodhisattva of compassion, protection, and swift action. Elegantly seated in lalitasana (royal ease) upon a finely cast double-lotus throne, Tara is portrayed with one leg extended, symbolizing her readiness to respond immediately to those who call upon her.
The sculpture displays remarkable craftsmanship throughout, with finely chased floral scrollwork adorning the garments, an elaborate five-leaf crown, delicately modeled jewelry, and beautifully rendered lotus blossoms rising behind each shoulder. Her right hand is raised in varada mudra, the gesture of generosity and blessing, while the left rests gracefully upon her knee.
Retaining a luminous hand-applied gilt surface, the figure also preserves traces of traditional polychrome decoration, including blue pigment to the hair and red pigment on the reverse of the crown, characteristic of Himalayan devotional sculpture. The underside features a hand-engraved double vajra (visvavajra) symbol on its copper base plate, an auspicious emblem associated with consecrated Buddhist images.
A striking devotional work that serves equally well as a collector's object, meditation sculpture, or sophisticated decorative accent in traditional, eclectic, or contemporary interiors.
