An exceptional and seldom-seen monumental stoneware table lamp by celebrated California ceramic artist David Cressey. Finished in an uncommon speckled teal glaze, this sculptural lamp features Cressey's signature hand-applied geometric relief pattern wrapping the lower body..
Unlike the more commonly encountered earth-tone or flame-glazed examples, this vibrant teal glaze is exceptionally difficult to find, making it a standout piece for serious collectors of California studio ceramics and Mid-Century Modern design.
The lamp retains its rich original glaze with beautiful depth and subtle variations created during the firing process. A teal/turquoise speckled glaze applied geometric relief pattern. Resting on its original dark wood base, it has tremendous visual presence whether displayed in a living room, entry, library, or designer interior.
David Cressey's work helped define California Modernism, and his sculptural lamps continue to be among the most sought-after examples of American studio ceramics. This is an authentic vintage example, not a reproduction. Original lamp shade included.
This lamp comes from an important private collection acquired from a Beverly Hills Spanish Villa reimagined by AD100 designer S. Johanknecht. The collection included multiple original David Cressey lamps, all acquired together, including this rare teal example, a classic Bubble lamp, and another sculptural Cressey lamp (pictures above). The presence of three distinct original David Cressey forms within the same collection reinforces the provenance and reflects a thoughtfully curated group of important California studio ceramics.
