A life-size 65-inch (approx. 5.4 ft) vintage hand-carved hardwood workshop mold from Paete, Philippines—a world-renowned "Carving Capital". Acquired in the 1990s, this massive single-block taka-an master carving features a 19th-century European infantry soldier with a detailed shako plumed hat, prominent shoulder epaulets, a horizontal button-piped uniform jacket, and a musket rifle resting against his shoulder.
19th century vintage.
The flat-blocked back and stepped head profiles are textbook structural hallmarks of a traditional master mold used to form hollow, lightweight festive papier-mâché (taka) figures.
Displays a gorgeous, dark, natural aged workshop patina with structural timber age checking. Mounted securely onto a contemporary circular concrete gallery base for interior display stability. A commanding statement piece.
