The Safari Chairs by Maurice Burke for Arkana are classics of British seating history and still embody the unmistakable Campaign style of the 1960s. The stretched leather seat hangs freely between the solid, tapered legs of warm teak, connected by black metal crossbars and visible screws—a construction principle that gives the chairs their minimalist, almost expedition-like appearance. The black leather is taut on the seat, backrest, and curved armrests, conforming organically to the wood grain. What fascinates us most about this design is how the heavy teak and the light, suspended leather create such a clear contrast without making the chairs appear busy.
