A sculptural ceramic pendant light from the 1960s, in the "Fat Lava" glaze style popular in West German studio pottery of the period. The piece is finished in a warm cream and tan ground with rich rust-brown drip glaze pooling at the neck and rim. The bulbous lower body is pierced with a ring of circular cutouts that glow when lit. The neck flares into a scalloped, tulip-form opening at the top, fitted with a brass canopy assembly and single Edison-base porcelain socket. The fixture has been fully rewired to current U/L safety standards, with the original ceramic finish left untouched.
"Fat Lava" refers to the thick, dripping, texturally rich glazes characteristic of West German ceramics from the 1950s through 1970s, prized today for their bold organic surfaces and mid-century sculptural forms.
