A rare and beautifully restored set of Kai Kristiansen Model OD-69 dining chairs, made in Denmark by Oddense Maskinsnedkeri (which … Read more A rare and beautifully restored set of Kai Kristiansen Model OD-69 dining chairs, made in Denmark by Oddense Maskinsnedkeri (which later rebranded as OD Mobler) in the early 1960s. Similar to Niels Moller's model 78 and 79 chairs, this Kristiansen design features stiletto tapered legs and lines so organic the chair looks almost as if it were injection molded rather than hand-shaped.

An absence of stretcher bars between the legs completes the minimalist look, allowing daintily tapered legs and curved backs to remain the focal point. The partially upholstered backrest adds an unexpected visual punctuation while enhancing comfort.

The frames were recently refinished and show beautifully. The seats and backs are newly upholstered in a distressed dark charcoal leather, with new high density foam to ensure many years of comfortable use.

Perhaps due to the wild commercial success of Erik Buck's model 49 chair, OD Mobler produced relatively few of Kristiansen's designs, making them exceedingly rare.

These chairs are unmarked, which was not uncommon for furniture produced in the early 1960s. See less
