The composition centers on a bedridden figure attended by three people, possibly depicting a vigil or medical scene. The figures are surrounded by period furnishings carved with high skill: a cane-back chair, a turned paraffin lamp on a side table, ceramic pitcher and wash bowl, a paneled interior door, woven rug over plank flooring, and exposed ceiling beams.

The spatial depth achieved, with strong recession across three or more distinct planes, is exceptional for the medium. The carved panel is mounted to an integrated freestanding base, allowing display on a mantel, library shelf, or console.

Approximately 24"L × 18"W × 6.75"D overall. Very good antique condition; no cracks or structural issues. An untested electrical fitting for optional backlighting is present on the reverse. See less
