This 19th-century French provençal pot à confit vert has been thoughtfully converted into a table lamp, preserving the simple utility and enduring character of the original vessel. Hand-thrown in southwestern France, the rich green lead glaze is characteristic of a smaller group of southern French pottery workshops and is generally less frequently encountered than the traditional yellow ochre-glazed confit jars. Fitted with vintage linen shade with green accents.
Dimensions: Jar 14.25" H (with wood base) x 11 75" W (with handles). With shade: 27in H x 19 1/2in diameter.
*Vintage shade will be shipped in a separate box. If you prefer to purchase without the shade, please message and we'll adjust the shipping.
Originally used to preserve duck, goose, and other meats beneath a layer of rendered fat, pots à confit were designed with a glazed upper body for ease of cleaning and an unglazed base that helped regulate temperature when stored in cool cellars. Expertly mounted as a lamp, this example pairs the rustic character of 19th-century French pottery with timeless functionality, making it equally suited to traditional, country, or contemporary interiors.
