This monumental medical atlas, comprising more than 300 finely executed lithographic plates, is considered one of the masterpieces of nineteenth-century anatomical illustration and scientific publishing. This carefully curated suite presents four complementary studies of the human body, illustrating the musculature of the lower leg and foot, the deep muscles and ligaments of the spine and pelvis, the muscles and tendons of the forearm and hand, and the skeletal structure of the rib cage. Together the plates offer a comprehensive survey of both the musculoskeletal and skeletal systems, combining scientific precision with remarkable artistic refinement. Jules Germain Cloquet (1790–1883) was one of France's foremost surgeons and among the earliest members elected to the Académie Nationale de Médecine. Renowned for his contributions to anatomy and surgery, he also invented several important surgical instruments and played a significant role in nineteenth-century medical education. His Anatomie de l'Homme remains one of the defining anatomical atlases of its era. Printed using the then-revolutionary lithographic process, each plate displays extraordinary tonal subtlety, meticulous draftsmanship, and elegant composition. While originally intended for physicians and medical students, these works are now equally appreciated as sophisticated decorative pieces, ideal for libraries, medical practices, orthopedic and physiotherapy clinics, wellness spaces, boutique hotels, and contemporary interiors. The harmonious monochrome palette and museum-quality engraving make this suite an impressive statement installation, whether displayed together or individually. This suite is offered unframed. Any framed or interior photographs are shown for presentation purposes only and may not represent exact scale.
