This exceptional, late 20th century handmade English Regency / Duncan Phyfe style double-pedestal dining table offers a commanding, high-end presentation, combining masterfully executed traditional veneers with robust, finely carved support structures. The centerpiece of the design is an expansive rectangular top with soft, rounded corners, featuring a premium walnut veneer main field arranged in a striking, symmetrical book-matched layout that displays a beautiful series of mirrored cathedral grain peaks. This warm amber field is bordered by a crisp inlaid lightwood stringing line and a wide, highly decorative outer rim crafted from dense, swirling walnut burl veneer. Every section is finished in a rich, lustrous protective glaze that accentuates the intense contrast between the book-matched center and the knotted textures of the burl frame.
The table features remarkable versatility, expanding from a stately family size to a grand banquet length with the inclusion of two substantial matching leaf inserts. Thanks to precision craftsmanship, the intricate wood grain patterns, burl borders, and multi-layered reeded apron moldings remain tightly aligned and visually cohesive even at full extension. Supporting the expansive top are two classic, heavy turned baluster pedestals carved with deep traditional rings. Each pillar branches out into three graceful, sweeping saber legs detailed with an elegant triple-reeded edge carving. Each leg terminates in traditional, highly detailed brass lion-paw casters, giving the table an elevated posture while ensuring rock-solid stability and maximum under-table legroom for a large party of guests.
Custom-made from figured walnut with burled walnut banding in 1997 by Mill House Inc of Woodbury, CT.
