A striking French faux-bamboo mirror dating to circa 1900, distinguished by its sculptural turned-wood frame, warm maple-toned finish, and beautifully time-softened patina.
The frame is crafted to imitate segmented bamboo, with delicately ringed posts, rounded junctions, extended crosspieces, and carved pointed finials that give the mirror a graceful, architectural silhouette. The mellow honey-brown finish has developed rich tonal variation over more than a century, lending the piece the depth and character found only in an authentic antique.
The reverse retains traditional wood-plank construction, further reflecting its period craftsmanship and age.
This exceptional mirror was personally acquired in L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue in the South of France in 2007 and brought back to the United States. Its elegant proportions, unusual bamboo-form design, and French provenance make it a particularly refined statement piece for a thoughtfully collected interior.
Beautiful above a console, commode, mantel, dressing table, or powder-room vanity, it would complement French country, traditional, Chinoiserie, British Colonial, Mediterranean, and layered European interiors.
