A charming vintage pastel landscape purchased in Bellagio, Italy, and brought home in my suitcase! It depicts a picturesque European Palazzo surrounded by lush gardens, mature trees, and distant mountain views. I wonder if it was meant to be Villa Balbianello, a well-known Villa on the shores of Lake Como.
Rendered in a soft, muted palette of sage green, pale blue, warm ochre, and terracotta, the work captures the romantic atmosphere of the Italian countryside. Delicate architectural details, flowering window boxes, layered foliage, and the large tree in the foreground give the composition depth and character.
The pastel is beautifully presented beneath glass with a wide cream fabric mat and a distinctive green-and-gilt frame featuring decorative corner motifs. Its provenance from Bellagio adds to the piece’s authentic Italian character and makes it especially well suited to Mediterranean, Italian country, French country, or traditional interiors.
