Through the form built primarily by means of a color spot, the work refers to the paintings of colorists and post-impressionists. The expressive painting technique based on rapid brush movements and thick impasto builds a shaky, expressive composition that perfectly corresponds to the chosen theme. Cool, subdued colors with a "dirty" shade reflect the pessimistic expression of the impossibility of winning the fight against literary windmills.

Although the presented painting is the work of an artist whose name is not usually associated with painting - it fits perfectly with his oeuvre. It is a combination of the literary motif of Don Quixote appealing to the imagination of caricaturists, with excellent painting expression.

The motif of Don Quixote was most often used by masters of realism, who, just like Brzozowski, were familiar with the experience of caricaturists. The best names include: Honore Daumier, Gustave Dore, and among Poles Piotr Michałowski and Jacek Malczewski.

Stefan Brzozowski (1911-1978) - a famous caricaturist, a painter, ceramist and graphic artist by profession. He studied at the School of Fine Arts in Warsaw, he also graduated from the Faculty of Painting, Ceramics and Graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow.

He made his debut as a caricaturist in 1938. He collaborated with excellent Polish magazines. Brzozowski's oil paintings remain rather unknown in relation to his drawings. In his painting work, Brzozowski often expressed his erudition and knowledge of artistic motives - also in the presented work he reaches for a topic associated with the greatest names of art.
