An elegant patinated terracotta centerpiece signed by Joé Descomps-Cormier, depicting two young nude women delicately reclining on a rocky mound, in a composition of great softness and remarkable balance.

The wide oval bowl is adorned with high-relief decoration of foliage and fantastical mascarons, including an imposing bearded face occupying the front, lending the piece a Symbolist and Art Nouveau character. The quality of the modeling, the finesse of the anatomy, and the expressiveness of the faces testify to the talent of Joé Descomps, a renowned French sculptor of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

This decorative piece, both a sculpture and a centerpiece, perfectly illustrates the aesthetics of the Belle Époque and would be a welcome addition to a collection dedicated to Art Nouveau or French decorative arts.
