White porcelain gilt edge Art Deco Streamline coffee and tea set produced by Myott Son & Co. circa 1930 for The Cunard Cruise Ship, the storied English luxury cruise line.
The set's minimal ornamentation nods to the
Machine Age sensibilities of late Art Deco design. The design was practical to prevent spills at sea and also a visual nod to the curves and clean lines of 1930s boats. Both the coffeepot and the teapot, are rectangular with filleted corners. Two parallel incised lines mark each of the faces of coffeepot and teapot, and a shallow chamfer allows for a slightly protruding circular spout at the front corner of each. A deeper chamfer is cut at the rear of both pieces to allow room for a handle. The handles of both pieces are a continuation of the rear filleted corner and attach to a square rim, which is decorated with a Fine gold band.
With its distinctively modern shape and interesting provenance, this set is a great find for a china or Art Deco collector. In excellent vintage condition
