Capture the dramatic spirit of 19th-century French Romanticism with this impressive vintage hot-cast bronze replica sculpture of Pegasus, the legendary winged horse of Greek mythology. Created after the celebrated composition by renowned French sculptor Émile-Louis Picault (1833–1915), the sculpture depicts Pegasus rearing triumphantly atop an intricately detailed battlefield trophy base featuring a sword, shield, and helmet.
This example is an authorized mid-to-late 20th-century historic replica produced by the respected J.B. Hirsch Company as part of its "Collection Française" series. The reverse of the rocky base bears the official circular "Collection Française – Made in USA" foundry mark surrounding a stylized fleur-de-lis. Cast from historic French molds acquired by J.B. Hirsch, these sculptures are recognized for their exceptional craftsmanship and faithful reproduction of classic European works.
Crafted using the traditional lost-wax casting process, the bronze features a rich, multi-toned dark brown patina with warm golden highlights that beautifully accentuate the powerful anatomy and finely sculpted wings. The front of the base is signed in the bronze "E. PICAULT," honoring the original artist.
Mounted on a substantial black lacquered wooden plinth, this impressive 20-inch sculpture weighs approximately 18.5 pounds, making it a striking statement piece for a library, office, mantel, or fine art collection.
