Originally built with exceptional craftsmanship, the cabinet retains its beautifully aged frame, raised panel doors, original mortised hinges, and traditional lock system. Over the years, the back had been replaced improperly and the original shelving was lost. Rather than disguising those issues, we completely disassembled the cabinet and restored it using traditional methods that honor its original construction.

A new tongue-and-groove back was handcrafted from salvaged 1920s quarter sawn oak reclaimed from a New York church, then aged and finished to blend naturally with the cabinet. Five new 1-inch thick solid oak shelves were handmade to match the period and remain fully adjustable and removable.

The original hinges were carefully cleaned and reused. Period-correct brass backplates and pulls were sourced to complement the cabinet. The half-mortise lock is functional with two skeleton keys. Hidden magnetic catches have been discreetly added to maintain perfect door alignment during everyday use without requiring the cabinet to remain locked.

Every surface was carefully cleaned, structurally repaired, stained, and sealed while preserving the warmth, patina, and character that only age can create.

This cabinet works beautifully as a library bookcase, linen cupboard, pantry cabinet, dining room storage, or statement piece in a modern traditional home.
