Louie XV revival; table top shaped like a book, featuring gold tooled / gold embossed leather stretched over the table top as well as the spleen. Word Utopia is scrolled in gold marquetry on the hidden pull out drawer, originated from Greek roots meaning "no place," as it was coined by Sir Thomas More for his 1915 book about a flawless fictional island, “Utopia” . While the slender Cabriole style legs and gold marquetry (wood inlay) derive from 18th-century French design, this specific combination of gold embossed hand-tooled leather top disguised as a book, accompanied by minimalist elegant Cabriole legs is a distinct novelty characteristic of mid-century reproduction of Louie XV . Most of the gold marquetry yet remains but some has worn off, tooled Leather (stretched over the tabletop) has honest wear consistent with age & use, table top is a bit dirty & has water ring stains, consistent with having been used as a Coffee table, nonetheless, Table is structurally sound & very sturdy, it’s a well crafted piece of furniture. Exceptional craftsmanship, very clean work. Pages of the book are painted Black & Gold. With very small footprint, it measures 18x18x13” , thus making it virtually effortless to maneuver in tight spaces or between rooms..such as an Office or a dedicated Library room. Possibilities are endless, it can be as versatile as an Occasional/Accent table: use it as Coffee or a Cocktail table, side table for reading or displaying books or perhaps, leave it sitting by the entrance into your Home & utilize it as a Valet caddy for keys, wallet & pocket change. There’s a small hidden pull out drawer, scrolled in Gold, “Utopia” over the front of it, it’s a pretty spacious drawer, for such a small table, see pics.
