The painting depicts a tranquil natural landscape rendered with expressive brushwork and rich, harmonious color. Signed “W.R. Shulgold” in the lower corner and retaining an older label on the reverse identifying the artist.

William Robert Shulgold was an American painter, etcher, and educator whose work appeared in numerous exhibitions throughout his career. His paintings are represented in auction records and are appreciated by collectors of 20th-century American art.

This work would complement traditional, rustic, lodge, or transitional interiors and is ready to display.

Sold in vintage condition consistent with age.

On a personal note, this painting decorated my grandparents wall. I’m 55 this year and grew up in LA. I remember staring at it many times as a very young kid visiting them, wondering where this town was in the world and what stories could be told about it. When they passed many, many moons ago, I inherited it. I’m ready to let it go to bring beauty to another’s home.

William Robert Shulgold (1897–1989):
* Born in Russia and raised in Pittsburgh.
* Studied at Carnegie Technical Institute, the Art Students League, and in Paris and Florence.
* Later lived in Southern California.
* Exhibited at major institutions including the Pennsylvania Academy, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Los Angeles County Museum, and the Corcoran Gallery. See less
