A serene vintage Chinese table lamp centered upon a hand-carved soapstone figure of Guanyin, the bodhisattva traditionally associated with compassion and mercy.
The standing figure is portrayed with a gentle downward gaze, delicately defined features and flowing layered robes. Her elegantly positioned hands hold a slender flowering stem that extends upward toward the carved floral ornament beside her head. Subtle dark accents define the eyes and brows, enhancing the figure’s peaceful expression.
The Guanyin is carved from pale cream-to-celadon soapstone with warm honey coloration through the hair and floral ornament, together with natural russet veining and mineral inclusions. She stands upon a contrasting multicolored carved stone rockwork pedestal in rich shades of brown, russet, cream and black.
The stone composition is mounted upon an ornate bronze-tone metal lamp base decorated in relief with Asian landscape, floral, foliate and figural motifs. Its aged finish and layered decoration give the lamp a particularly substantial and collected appearance.
Based on the carving and overall construction, the soapstone figure is believed to date from approximately the 1920s–1940s, with the present lamp mounting and electrical elements possibly installed or updated later.
A vintage rectangular laced fabric shade completes the lamp, producing a warm glow when illuminated. The shade is included for its period character and complementary proportions, although it displays age-related wear.
The lamp measures approximately 27 inches high overall, 8 inches wide and 6 inches deep. It weighs approximately 10.6 pounds.
The lamp is currently operational and is shown illuminated in the photographs.

Good vintage condition with visible wear consistent with age and previous use. The carved soapstone displays natural mineral inclusions, tonal variations and russet-colored veining. Scattered surface marks, discoloration, residue and small age-related imperfections are present. There appears to be old mounting material or residue where the pale Guanyin figure joins the darker carved stone pedestal. Minute chips, surface losses or wear may be present around the delicate floral carving and other projecting details. The ornate metal base displays oxidation, patina, rubbing and loss to portions of its dark and gilt-toned finish. The vintage rectangular fabric shade shows discoloration and wear, including losses and deterioration along portions of the laced trim and frame. It is included as a vintage accessory and may be replaced according to the buyer’s preference. The lamp is currently working, as photographed. The electrical components and cord have not been professionally inspected; evaluation by a qualified electrician is recommended before regular use. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description.
