An exceptionally detailed vintage Chinese table lamp fashioned from a substantial hand-carved soapstone vase. Dating to approximately the 1940s–1960s, the sculptural base features an elaborate naturalistic composition of long-tailed birds among dense flowering branches, pine-like foliage, pierced leaves, rockwork and small vessel forms.
The remarkably intricate decoration is carved in high relief, with extensive piercing and undercutting that allows the birds, foliage and branches to project dramatically from the vase-shaped body. The carving incorporates the stone’s naturally variegated palette of soft celadon green, cream, warm beige and muted rose. Select details retain subtle dark accents that bring additional definition to the birds and foliage.
The richly carved front contrasts with a comparatively restrained reverse, allowing the beauty and natural coloration of the stone itself to remain visible. An illuminated vintage hexagonal fabric shade complements the base with a softly tailored silhouette and warm ambient glow. Brass-tone hardware and a decorative finial complete the presentation.
The lamp measures approximately 26 inches high overall. The stone base measures approximately 7 inches wide and 5 inches deep. Substantial in both scale and construction, the complete lamp weighs approximately 10.6 pounds.
The lamp is operational and illuminates properly as photographed.

Good vintage condition consistent with age and the delicate nature of the carving. The soapstone displays natural tonal variation, mineral inclusions, veining and visible age-related fissures, particularly around the upper vase and reverse. Scattered minute chips or losses may be present among the extensively pierced foliage and other fragile carved elements. Light surface wear, dust and residue remain within some of the deeply carved recesses. The brass-tone lamp hardware displays age-related patina and finish wear. The vintage hexagonal fabric shade shows some discoloration and wear to portions of its trim. It is included as a complementary vintage shade but may eventually be replaced according to the buyer’s preference. The lamp is currently working, as shown. Vintage wiring and electrical components have not been professionally inspected; evaluation by a qualified electrician is recommended before extended use. Please review all photographs closely, as they form an important part of the condition description.
