An exceptional example of the Washington Prism Lounge Chair and Ottoman, designed by Sir David Adjaye for Knoll. Model WL21S, part of Knoll’s celebrated Washington Collection — Adjaye’s first venture into furniture design, developed in close collaboration with Knoll’s technical team.
Prism explores monumental form through faceted geometry: the seat and back are built from angled planes that meet at sharp, architectural points, creating a piece that reads as sculpture as much as seating. The glossy white color-core laminate base contrasts beautifully against the deep red wool upholstery, and the lounge chair features a smooth return-to-center swivel function that brings unexpected lightness to its bold, geometric form.
This set has been gently used and is in excellent overall condition, with only minor, honest signs of wear consistent with home use — see condition notes and photos below. Purchased new at the Knoll showroom in New York City.

Sir David Adjaye OBE is a British-Ghanaian architect, best known for major works including the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC. In 2010, Knoll invited Adjaye to design a furniture collection to mark the brand’s 75th anniversary — his first venture into product design. The resulting Washington Collection, developed over several years with Knoll’s technical team, explores themes central to Adjaye’s architectural practice: monumentality, materiality, and history. Prism, the final and most sculptural piece in the collection, distills those themes into faceted, light-catching form.
