An exceptional Italian Mid-Century Modern sideboard attributed to renowned designer Paolo Buffa, manufactured by Fratelli Marelli, Cantù, Italy, circa 1950s. Original Fratelli Marelli maker's label present.
This substantial 99-inch buffet beautifully showcases Buffa's signature balance of refined elegance and sculptural detailing. The cabinet features richly figured walnut veneers, dramatic carved cylindrical corner posts with hand-carved heron motifs, organic scalloped door edges, sculptural brass hardware, original working locks and keys, and elegant tapered legs.
Behind four locking doors is generous storage with fixed shelving, making the piece equally suited as a dining room buffet, media console, or statement credenza.
The craftsmanship is exceptional throughout, from the bookmatched veneers to the finely carved architectural details. It is a striking example of postwar Italian design that blends neoclassical influence with modernist restraint.
This sideboard has been in a private Colorado home and has been well cared for.
