A masterwork of late 20th-century American Studio Craft, this monumental console table was hand-crafted in 1999 by Northern California sculptor Mark Oldland.
Commissioned and fabricated as a singular, one-of-a-kind architectural work, the table features sweeping, organic forged legs that pierce directly through the hand-patinated tabletop, terminating in stylized spire/antenna accents. The surface is composed of two heavy-gauge plates joined down the center by a dramatic, hand-notched saw-tooth seam that creates a striking visual and structural tension.
The finish is a patina w clear coat. Good resistance to moisture but it can be abraded (heavy things w rough bottoms are not advised)
Made of cold roll steel.

Mark Oldland creates art furniture, sculpture, architectural elements and occasional poems. He enjoys playing/pulling at edges, as between animate and inanimate, between functional and purely aesthetic. Juggling may aptly describe this pursuit. He's learned to accept and even relish the vulnerability this tack creates and developed a taste for working from the 'empty cup.'
Mark has been a full time, independent gallery artist since 1993. His work has appeared in more than twenty different galleries. He's been working in metal, stone and glass since 1978. Galleries having shown his work include:

Acquired directly from the artist’s Northern California studio and curated from the private collection of artist Eve Paige Spencer, whose own work is held in the permanent collection of the Ruth Chandler Williamson Gallery at Scripps College, California, and her husband, writer and art collector Donner Spencer. The piece has remained in the family since acquired.
Style & Placement
