This is a vintage, hand-carved and hand-painted wood duck (Aix sponsa) drake decoy, styled in the tradition of American folk art and sporting memorabilia. Designed primarily as a decorative mantle or shelf sculpture, the piece captures the distinctive, vibrant markings of a male wood duck.
Design & Craftsmanship
Sculpting Style: Features a flat-bottom design intended for stable tabletop or shelf display. The body displays directional rasping and carving grooves that mimic the organic texture of feathers along the back and flanks.
Paint & Artistry: Meticulously hand-painted with block-color segments. It highlights the drake's signature emerald green and white-striped crest, a rich chestnut chest with cream striping, a warm ochre-yellow flank panel, and slate-blue wing highlights.
Protection: The base is outfitted with an oval red felt furniture-protector pad to safeguard home surfaces from scratches.
