Kawase Hasui's "Rain at Shinagawa," a quietly atmospheric rain-on-water scene from one of the most collected names in 20th-century Japanese woodblock printing. This design was first published in 1931 and remained one of Watanabe Shozaburo's most enduring rain compositions for decades after.
This impression is a Watanabe lifetime-edition printing, produced between 1945 and 1957, confirmed by the publisher's hand-stamped round seal, measuring 6mm, stacked with Hasui's personal red seal beneath his brush-signed name at lower left. That seal size and shape is the specific, documented marker distinguishing this postwar printing from both the earlier pre-1942 "sausage seal" printings and the later 1989–2019 posthumous reprints.
Presented in its current frame, a blue-painted wood molding with a gilt inner lip and glass front. Ready to hang as-is.

Two creases are visible in the right upper third. The verso shows more pronounced old staining across the lower portion of the sheet, with mounting-tape remnants at the corners; some migrates through to the front. The frame is structurally sound with light wear to the painted finish at the corners consistent with age. Please review all photos closely, as they represent the piece's current condition. less
