On the Design:

Rooted in the rich vocabulary of early twentieth-century Persian tribal weaving, this antique rug enjoys a particularly intricate all-over composition of repeating eight-pointed star medallions, cross-hatched diamond rosettes, and smaller geometric motifs. The dark, beautifully abrashed charcoal-indigo field provides a striking backdrop for these lively forms, allowing the warmer tones of terracotta-red, ivory, ochre, muted green, and slate blue to emerge with remarkable depth. Keen eyes will admire the subtle variations between motifs, which lend the otherwise rhythmic and structured drawing a wonderfully organic character.

A broad brick-red border provides a handsome contrast to the darker field, hosting a continuous procession of stylized flowerheads, geometric devices, and angular vinery.
