The model depicts a two-story frame residence with a wraparound front porch, projecting bay window, rear addition, attached garage, and painted red chimney. Exterior siding, windows, doors, and roof shingles are rendered in black ink over a light-painted surface, giving the piece a charming hand-illustrated appearance. The porch floor is signed in black marker, "Wilbur Krause - Pearl City - McConnell, IL," identifying the apparent maker and location. While the exact purpose of the model is unknown, pieces of this type were often created as personal projects, commemorative representations of family homes, or demonstrations of woodworking and drafting ability. Research suggests Wilbur Krause lived in both Madison, Wisconsin, and the Pearl City/McConnell area of Stephenson County, Illinois. Beyond these records, little is presently known about the maker with the exception of the possible theft of six chickens in 1932. See less
