On the Design:

A compelling architectural statement from the Caucasus region, this turn-of-the-century antique runner illustrates the disciplined spatial layout and graphic vigor characteristic of early tribal weaving. The framework is built around a long, dark slate-blue rectangular core that functions as a central spine down the middle of the field. Embedded within this dark column is a sequential procession of stacked, eight-pointed star lozenges, offering a dense focal anchor that contrasts sharply with the surrounding elements.

Flanking the central column is an open, warm ivory field populated on both sides by a procession of polychromatic hooked diamond motifs. Drawn with sharp, stepped outlines, these traditional protective talismans appear in saturated shades of crimson red, terracotta, deep indigo, teal, and muted olive green. The interplay between the dark central axis and the light, motif-filled flanks creates a dynamic visual rhythm along the layout. Framing the entire canvas are multiple narrow guard borders and an outer reciprocal latch-hook band, securing the layout with structural precision. Displaying beautiful natural color variation and an authentic, age-softened patina, this antique runner offers a refined and historical expression of Caucasian tribal weaving.
