(Hindi अतुल डोडिया IAST Atul Ḍoḍiyā; born January 20, 1959, in Ghatkopar near Bombay) is an Indian artist. He uses the mediums of painting and drawing to depict themes of tradition and modernity in India. In particular, he focuses on depictions of his hometown, the megacity of Mumbai. Works by Dodiya have been exhibited at documenta and the Venice Biennale.
Atul Dodiya studied art at the Sir Jamsetjee Jeejebhoy School of Art in Bombay (now Mumbai) and graduated with a diploma in 1982. from 1991 to 1992, he spent a study period at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. His first exhibition outside India took place in Amsterdam in 1993. Dodiya’s style is realistic, and his techniques range from oil painting to watercolor and drawing. Recurring elements include references to religious imagery and the conflict-ridden history of India and Pakistan; his paintings are often structured around text. Dodiya lives and works in Mumbai. His wife, Anju Dodiya (b. 1964), is also an artist; her works are exhibited internationally. This piece has an attribution mark,
