in 1927, ludwig mies van der rohe presented the mr10 at the weissenhof siedlung in stuttgart — a chair that would become one of the defining objects of the 20th century. The principle was radical for its time: a single, continuous loop of chrome-plated tubular steel, bent into a cantilevered form that eliminated the rear legs entirely. The result was a chair that appeared to float, combining structural engineering with an almost sculptural economy of means.
this example follows that design faithfully: a single continuous chrome tubular steel frame in polished finish, with seat and backrest executed in thick black cowhide leather — the heavy-gauge belting leather version with characteristic cross-lace detailing on the back panel, a construction method associated with higher-quality licensed productions of this design.
the chair has developed an honest patina consistent with its age. The leather has softened and shaped itself over decades of use. The chrome retains its reflective quality with only light surface wear. It is a piece that looks precisely as it should look — lived with, not overrestored.
the manufacturer of this specific example is not confirmed: no maker's stamp or label is present. The chair is sold as a vintage example produced in the manner of the mr10 design by ludwig mies van der rohe.
