Italy, 1920s origin italy period 1920s author serafino volpi was a painter, ceramist and innovative entrepreneur, a key figure in deruta ceramics in the twentieth century. After being technical director at maioliche deruta (1916-1919) and co-founder of the grazia company, in 1928 he created maiolica derutese, bringing it to international success thanks also to his collaboration with famous decorators. After the second world war he successfully opened the japanese market by fusing local techniques, such as moriage, with american-inspired subjects in a style with an italian flavour. In 1950 he sold the company to his son to found the s. Volpi studio, where he expressed a freer, more modern and experimental stylistic signature until the business closed a few years later. Materials painted ceramic dimensions painting: 10 x 10 cm frame: 17.5 x 17.5 x 2 cm conditions the tiles are in excellent condition, as can be seen from the attached photos.
