Widely regarded as one of the finest anatomical atlases of the nineteenth century, this landmark publication comprised more than 300 meticulously executed lithographic plates and represents a milestone in both medical science and artistic printmaking. The present suite illustrates three distinct areas of human anatomy, including the pectoral and shoulder musculature, the muscles and tendons of the forearm and hand, and the musculature of the lower leg and foot. Each plate demonstrates the extraordinary precision and sculptural quality for which Cloquet's atlas is celebrated. The delicate tonal lithography creates a remarkable sense of depth, making these scientific illustrations equally captivating as decorative works of art. Jules Germain Cloquet (1790–1883) was one of France's leading surgeons and among the earliest members elected to the Académie Nationale de Médecine. He made significant contributions to anatomy and surgical practice, invented several important surgical instruments including improved arterial forceps, and also explored emerging fields such as acupuncture and mesmerism. Today these original lithographs are highly sought after by collectors of antique medical illustration, historians of science, interior designers, and healthcare professionals. Their refined monochrome palette and elegant composition make them particularly suited for libraries, studies, medical practices, wellness clinics, boutique hotels, and contemporary interiors where historical scientific imagery is appreciated. This suite is sold unframed. Any framed or interior photographs are for display purposes only and are intended to illustrate presentation possibilities.
