Considered one of the masterpieces of nineteenth-century medical publishing, this monumental atlas comprised more than 300 finely executed lithographic plates and remains among the most important anatomical works of its era. This carefully selected suite focuses on the anatomy of the pelvis, spine, and gluteal musculature. The plates illustrate the powerful muscles of the lower back, sacrum, pelvis, and hip from multiple perspectives, revealing both superficial and deeper anatomical structures with extraordinary precision. Cloquet's masterful lithographic technique combines scientific accuracy with remarkable artistic refinement, creating compositions that are as visually compelling today as they were for nineteenth-century physicians and surgeons. Jules Germain Cloquet (1790–1883) was one of France's foremost surgeons and among the earliest members elected to the Académie Nationale de Médecine. Renowned for his advances in anatomy and surgery, he invented several important surgical instruments, including improved arterial forceps, while also maintaining an interest in emerging disciplines such as acupuncture and mesmerism. Beyond their historical significance, these original lithographs possess a striking sculptural quality and subtle monochrome palette that complement both traditional and contemporary interiors. They make an outstanding addition to libraries, medical practices, wellness clinics, physiotherapy offices, academic institutions, boutique hotels, or any sophisticated interior where science and art intersect. This suite is offered unframed. Any framed or interior images are shown for presentation purposes only and may not represent exact scale.
