Born … Read more Louis ferrand (1905-1992), "vase of flowers", still life, oil on hardboard, signed and dated lower right, "l. Ferrand 61". Born in belle-île-en-mer in 1905, louis ferrand arrived in nantes in 1921 to study at the school of fine arts. A student of daussy, he also attended the école estienne and the grande chaumière in paris. He lived and worked his entire life in nantes, where he died in 1992. Throughout his life, he maintained a deep connection with his hometown, an inexhaustible source of inspiration and contemplation. He exerted a notable influence in the region from his first exhibition in 1928. He taught engraving at the school of fine arts for many years and was an active member of the independent regional group, the friends of art, and the friends of the museum of fine arts. In 1968, he was one of the founders of the "archipel" art group, based in nantes. From 1949 to 1979, the galerie michel columb in nantes regularly exhibited his works. After its closure, the galerie convergence took over its management until 1991. In 1981, he published a collection of his thoughts and aphorisms: "notes d'atelier" (study notes). In 1976, the musée des beaux-arts de nantes (museum of fine arts of nantes) dedicated a major retrospective to him. In 1992, the arha association organized a major exhibition of his works, along with those of his friend jorj morin, in the rooms of the tour du fer à cheval (horseshoe tower) of the castle of the dukes of brittany. Profoundly influenced by his native island, his work evokes the rhythm of the sea, the force of the wind, and the wild beauty of breton coves. Louis ferrand has always imbued his works with a profound reflection on the demands of the artistic process. Meditations on the essence of the world, conducted by this attentive observer of nature, gradually led him to move away from direct representations of things, achieving, in some cases, extreme simplification, a sign of his tireless pursuit of the elusive mystery of creation.
