Published in Paris by Firmin Didot & Cie during the late nineteenth century, these richly colored plates originate from the celebrated publication L'Ornement Polychrome, one of the finest surveys ever produced of historic architectural and decorative ornament. The three plates present a fascinating study of ornamental design, featuring medieval geometric decoration, interlaced motifs, architectural borders, illuminated manuscript-inspired patterns, Renaissance grotesques, strapwork, and seventeenth-century architectural ornament. Together they beautifully illustrate the transition from the bold geometry of medieval decoration to the increasingly elaborate ornament of the Renaissance. Executed in exceptional chromolithographic quality, these plates remain highly sought after by collectors, architects, interior designers, and enthusiasts of historic ornament. Displayed together, they create an impressive decorative ensemble while also serving as an important visual reference for the history of European design. Originally issued as separate plates, they are offered here as a carefully curated matching set. Publication: L'Ornement Polychrome. Cent planches en couleurs or et argent. Published under the direction of Albert Racinet. Firmin Didot, Paris. Medium: Original chromolithographs printed in color on wove paper.
