Executed in acrylic on board and dated 2025, the composition centers on an elaborately decorated Día de los Muertos calavera, crowned by a traditional Mexican hat and surrounded by brilliant orange cempasúchil (Mexican marigold) flowers, lush tropical foliage, and two extraordinary achoques.

The inclusion of the achoque gives the work an especially meaningful connection to Pátzcuaro. This remarkable amphibian is endemic to the Lake Pátzcuaro region of Michoacán and has become an important symbol of the area's unique natural heritage. Maya places an achoque on either side of the calavera, presenting the pair almost as spiritual guardians or guides accompanying the figure between the world of the living and the spirit world.

The imagery brings together several powerful symbols associated with Mexican culture and Día de los Muertos: the calavera or sugar skull, cempasúchil flowers, vivid folkloric ornamentation, and the indigenous natural history of Michoacán. The dense botanical background and saturated palette of emerald green, orange, yellow, pink, violet and blue create a visually immersive composition with exceptional decorative presence.
