On the Design:

Originating during the Qajar dynasty, this exquisite Persian rug represents a magnificent chapter in Iranian textile history where centuries-old folk traditions harmoniously blended with the floral geometry of imperial court workshops. In rural Persian culture, weaving was never merely a craft; it was a deeply intimate, non-verbal narrative written by the weaver knot by knot. Every motif incorporated into the loom functioned as an unspoken prayer, a reflection of the weaver's personal journey, or an invocation of spiritual protection for the home.
At the heart of this layout lies a magnificent, stepped star-medallion rendered in saturated brick red and indigo. Functioning in Persian iconography as a toranj—a sacred focal point symbolizing spiritual unity, cosmic order, and the hearth—the medallion blossoms outward with multi-layered floral rosettes. Surrounding this central star is a stepped ivory field structured into a breathtaking diamond trellis. A closer study of the field reveals an extraordinary lexicon of symbolic folk motifs: checkered grid compartments evoke ancient Persian burr motifs, traditionally woven to ward off the evil eye and attract prosperity. Interspersed within the lattice are cross-shaped four-petaled blossoms representing love and devotion. The field is framed by deep indigo corner spandrels that simulate the architectural archway of a prayer niche or mihrab or protective house walls, leading the eye into a rich brick-red primary border filled with linked palmettes and undulating floral vines or islimi symbolizing eternity and the continuous cycle of life.
