Whimsical oversized seated cat sculpture by Jeanne Valentine, handmade in Mexico from papier-mâché.
The piece features an elongated neck, expressive face with dramatic eyelashes, raised bow tie, curled tail, floral body detail, and a softly distressed cream-and-gold finish. The underside retains its original “Jeanne Valentine, S.A. Made in México” foil label, along with handwritten markings reading “New Hope” and “4/26/70,” suggesting a circa-1970 date.
At 41 inches tall, this is a substantial decorative statement piece suited to an eclectic, bohemian, folk art, or maximalist interior.
Vintage condition with age-related surface wear, scuffs, finish variation, and wear around the base. There is one small puncture on the back, shown clearly in the photographs. The sculpture remains structurally complete and displays very well.
