Shagreen-covered grip with wire … Read more Sabre of the 2nd company of Musketeers "black" of the King's Household, model 1814.Silvered brass hilt. Shagreen-covered grip with wire wrapping. Short, straight pommel. Four-branch battle-type guard with a round shell, decorated with the fleur-de-lis and flamed Musketeer's cross on a radiant background, supported by finials. Quillon chased with a fleur-de-lis, stamped "B" as are the guard and pommel. Straight blade with a flat back, engraved "Manufre Rle du Klingenthal novembre 1814", with a false edge and double fullers.Length: 106 cmCreated on June 15, 1814, at the instigation of Louis XVIII, this company, known as the "black" because of the coat color of their horses, received their sabers in 1815, just a few months before their dissolution on September 1, 1815, following Napoleon's return.
