INDIA, Rajasthan. Khanjar, Mughal Dynasty (1526-1857).
The hilt is made of honey-colored agate speckled with brown, carved with a ram's head motif inlaid with precious stones and gold wire in floral patterns.
The straight, tapered blade is made of wootz steel.
The ricasso is decorated with palmettes, scrolls, and stars damascened in gold.
The stars had a talismanic function, purifying the steel and protecting the warrior.
This type of metalwork was not intended for combat but served as a symbol of social status, wealth, and power for nobles and Maharajas.
Overall length: 32 cm.
Excellent condition.
