A magnificent hunting dagger.
German work from the 17th century.
The handle is made of faceted, milky blue chalcedony agate with a hexagonal cross-section.
The ferrule is made of gilt and chased bronze, decorated with the profile of an antique Roman emperor wearing a laurel wreath on one side.
The other side bears the profile of a woman richly adorned with a necklace and diadem.
These profiles were almost certainly those of the patron and his wife.
Thin, straight blade with a triangular cross-section, designed primarily for thrusting. It is engraved with a burin of floral motifs in scrolls on the first third, work characteristic of productions from Northern Europe. The richness of the materials and the finesse of the workmanship make it a prestigious hunting dagger, a testament to the finest productions of the 17th century. Total length 75 cm.
