A French court sword with a multi-guard, made of iron,
dating from the late 17th to early 18th century.
This type of guard was used on rapiers until the early 18th century.
It features an openwork hilt, engraved branches, and a grip encircled by an iron chain around its entire surface.
The blade is thicker at the base, as was common on 17th-century rapiers.
The blade is engraved with floral motifs.
The last third of the blade has been restored; it was broken and then re-welded with a reinforcement. This restoration likely dates from the 19th century.
Blade length: 80 cm.
Overall length: 95 cm.
